Notes for users
You
can simply
unpack PeaZip portable in the
path you prefer and use it, even on the
network or on
removable devices as USB sticks; it will not modify the host
system.
On Windows systems the setup
of PeaZip installable needs to
run with administrative privileges, otherwise the program will install
correctly for all but the filetype associations which could not be set.
On Linux systems, if missing
libraries are reported installing PeaZip
or the first time you
run peazip binary (you can launch it from a console for detailed
feedback),
please follow your package manager instruction to install them. Usually
missing libraries are standard and widely available gtk/gtk related
components (like
libgdk_pixbuf).
While PeaZip's 64 bit packages are meant for 64 bit systems only,
PeaZip's 32 bit packages can be used on 64 bit Windows or Linux systems (for
Linux, omit architecture
check for 32 bit installable packages or use _portable packages); 32
bit backend binaries can be freely
replaced with 64 bit
counterparts (if available) for performance optimization.
See documentation (and FreeDesktop_integration
folder in Linux packages)
for hints about integration of PeaZip in the desktop environment
(Gnome, KDE, Windows): file
associations, start menu, service/context menus, SendTo...
PeaZip UNACE plugin plugin is
excluded from the
base package and is not hosted on SourceForge because it is (royalty
free) closed source software. Binaries in "standalone"
UNACE plugin packages should go in
peazip/res/unace/ path.
Release notes
Release 2.2 sees the long
awaited introduction of UTF-8 support,
to help handling filenames with extended characters ans allow localization of the user inteface
text.
Translations now available are English and Italian, hopefully more will
come
with the help of the community: you can mail me
localized language file to be included in future updates, see
"Translations" chapter in documentation
(or ask on the forum)
if you are willing to contribute your translation.
User experience was also improved, adding bookmarks, making the address bar
editable, improving PeaLauncher, introducing the new NuoveXT theme and many other fixes
and improvements.
Under the hood, crypto libraries in use were updated, p7zip 4.48 is now
supported on Linux, UPX was updated to 3.03 and it was added support
for the highly efficient BALZ
compression format, to a total of 72 file extensions supported
by PeaZip 2.2.
